Kelly Straub Named ACC Diver of the Week

NOTRE DAME. Ind. — For the second time this season, junior diver Kelly Straub has been named ACC Diver of the Week. The award comes after her sweep of the women’s diving events at home vs. Northwestern on Jan. 17.

Straub first won the 3-meter event with a 329.93, besting the closest competition by more than 12 points. In the second half of the meet, she followed it up with another first-place finish, winning the 1-meter competition with a 307.20. She was followed by fellow Irish diver Erin Isola, who posted a 290.55 to claim second place.

Overall, Straub earned 18 points towards RV Notre Dame’s eventual total of 169, besting No. 25 Northwestern’s 74.

Straub also garnered ACC Diver of the Week honors Oct. 8 after her performance in the Irish win over the Florida State Seminoles at home. She joins swimmers Coleen Gillilan and Zach Yeadon as the only Notre Dame performers to earn the award multiple times this season, and is one of just three women divers in the ACC to win the title in more than one week this season (Louisville’s Molly Fears and Florida State’s Ayla Bonniwell). Overall, the Irish have received the distinction eight times this season, with Austin Flaute and Abbie Dolan also recognized once each.

Notre Dame will return to competition Friday to host the Shamrock Invitational at Rolfs Aquatic Center. Teams from Iowa, Ohio State, Akron and Missouri State will compete with the Irish. Sessions I and II will take place on Jan. 24, while Session III will be held on Saturday. Notre Dame will recognize 17 seniors on Senior Day prior to the beginning of Saturday’s session.
