NOTRE DAME, Ind. —– Junior Troy Murphy (Morristown, N.J.) has been named the BIG EAST Player of the Week. The 6-11 forward shares the honor with senior Calvin Bowman of West Virginia.
Murphy averaged 21.5 points and 9.0 rebounds in leading the Irish to a 2-0 week as Notre Dame clinched the BIG EAST West Division with victories over Boston College (76-75) and Virginia Tech (85-61). He had 23 points and eight rebounds against the Eagles and netted 20 points and grabbed 10 rebounds in the victory over the Hokies to record his 12th double-double of the season and 44th of his career.
Murphy is averaging 22.7 points and 9.4 rebounds for the 13th-ranked Irish who are 19-7 overall and 11-4 in the BIG EAST. This is the 11th time in his career that he won the league’s player-of-the-week honors. As a freshman, he claimed rookie-of-the-week accolades on eight occasions.
