April 3, 2012

NOTRE DAME, Ind. – Notre Dame’s Jim Marlatt (So./M) and Bobby Smith (Sr./LSM/D) were selected to the BIG EAST Weekly Honor Roll for men’s lacrosse for their efforts in Sunday’s 13-6 victory over St. John’s in the Konica Minolta Big City Classic.

Marlatt (Clarksville, Md./River Hill) scored a game-high and career-high three goals in the win over St. John’s and was named the game’s MVP. All three goals came within a span of 1:19 in the fourth quarter to increase Notre Dame’s lead to five (10-5) by the 11:15 mark of the period. This is Marlatt’s second weekly honor from the league this season. He was tabbed as the BIG EAST Offensive Player of the Week on March 12. Marlatt has a team-high 16 points this season on 12 goals and four assists.

Bobby Smith

Smith (Woodbine, N.J./Lawrenceville) helped the Irish defense limit the Red Storm to six goals overall and just two scores in the second half. St. John’s entered the day averaging 10 goals scored per game. Smith, who had to switch from his regular long-stick midfield position to close defense during portions of the contest, matched a career-high total with four ground balls. This is the first BIG EAST weekly honor for Smith.

The sixth-ranked Fighting Irish (7-1, 2-0) will put their six-game win streak on the line when they play host to BIG EAST foe Providence on Saturday. Faceoff is scheduled for 1:30 p.m. (ET) at Arlotta Stadium.
