Jerian Grant Named To BIG EAST Weekly Honor Roll

Jan. 30, 2012

NOTRE DAME, Ind. – Irish guard Jerian Grant (Bowie, Md.) has been named to the BIG EAST Weekly Honor Roll after leading Notre Dame to two road wins last week against Seton Hall (55-42) and Connecticut (50-48).

Darius Johnson-Odom of Marquette picked up player-of-the-week accolades, while Moe Harkless of St. John’s was named the league’s rookie of the week.

Grant, who earlier this season garnered rookie-of-the-week honors, was joined on the weekly Honor Roll by Nasir Robinson of Pittsburgh, LaDontae Henton of Providence, Kris Joseph of Syracuse and Kevin Jones of West Virginia.

Grant, the team’s third-leading scorer with a 12.7 scoring average, was instrumental in the back-to-back victories on the road last week. Against Seton Hall, he finished with 15 points, five rebounds and four assists while playing 38 minutes in the game. Although he made just two of his eight field goal attempts, Grant nailed 10-of-12 from the charity stripe, including several down the stretch. His defense limited the Pirates to a season-low 42 points that also marked the fewest points allowed by the Irish in a BIG EAST game.

In Notre Dame’s win at No. 24/19 Connecticut, Grant had one of the most complete games of his young career as he scored 11 points, grabbed five rebounds, dished off six assists and matched his career best with three steals. He also turned the ball over just once in 38 minutes of action.

Grant has started 21 of Notre Dame’s 22 contests and reached double figures in all but five of those games. He scored a career-high 22 points in outings against both Georgia and Maryland. Grant recorded his only double-double of the season when he scored 12 points and grabbed a personal best 11 rebounds versus Gonzaga. He also dished off a career-high nine assists in the win versus Pittsburgh in Notre Dame’s BIG EAST season opener.

Grant and his Irish teammates, winners of three straight, are 14-8 on the season and 6-3 in BIG EAST play. Notre Dame currently is tied for fourth regular-season league play heading into its Saturday matchup against No. 15 Marquette (18-4, 7-2).

Grant’s is one of three Irish players who have earned BIG EAST weekly accolades this season. Jack Cooley has been a four-time Weekly Honor Roll honoree, while Alex Dragicevich has earned the honor on one occasion.
