Jarrett Names Captains for 2020 Season

NOTRE DAME, Indiana — University of Notre Dame baseball coach Link Jarrett has announced team captains for the start of the 2020 season this Friday. Cameron Brown, Joe Boyle, Niko Kavadas and Daniel Jung were voted on by their teammates to lead the team for Jarrett’s first season as Irish head coach.

“Being selected a team captain by your peers is a tremendous honor,” said Jarrett. “The guys in the locker room obviously appreciate and respect the way Danny, Joe, Niko and Cam handle themselves in all phases of their roles as Notre Dame baseball players. Cam’s injury over the winter will keep him out, but the player’s recognize his impact. I am very proud of these guys and this honor will stay with them forever.”

Boyle, Kavadas and Jung all earned captains honors for the first time while Brown will hold the title for the second straight season.

Boyle and Kavadas were both named third team Preseason All-Americans by Baseball America. Kavadas led the Irish in homers (12) and RBI (43) last season while Boyle set career highs in innings pitched (25.2) and strikeouts (39. They were both summer teammates in the Cape Cod League for the Harwich Marines and both were selected as All-Stars.

Jung had a breakout season in 2019 for the Irish, setting career highs in home runs (5), RBI (40), runs (31) and hits (59).

Brown will miss the 2020 season with an arm injury but he led the staff with 89 strikeouts last season, the most since Will Hudgins had 90 in 2012.
