Jackoboice's Career Day Not Enough In Loss To #16/17 Denver

NOTRE DAME, Ind. – The No. 10 Fighting Irish fell to No. 16 Denver at Arlotta Stadium on Saturday afternoon by a score of 14-11.

Notre Dame was led by Wheaton Jackoboice who scored a career-high four goals on the day. Brian Willetts and Bryan Costabile each added two goals and an assist while Griffin Westlin led the team in assists with three.

How It Happened
After falling behind 5-3 early in the second quarter, the Irish scored the next two goals to level the game at 5-5 off goals from Willetts and Costabile. However, Denver answered with a 7-0 run over the rest of the first half and start of the third quarter to go on top 12-5.

Notre Dame fought its way back into the game, answering with five straight goals to trim the lead to 12-10 but the Irish comeback ran out of steam and the Pioneers came away with a 14-11 win.

Jackoboice had a career day, scoring four goals on the day. The junior scored three of Notre Dame’s final four goals on the afternoon.

Notre Dame Notes

  • With two goals, Costabile has 97 on his career, just three shy of becoming the second midfielder in program history to reach the 100-goal mark.
  • Jackoboice’s four goals are tied for the most a Notre Dame player has scored this season.
  • Morrison Mirer scored a season-high two goals against the Pioneers.
