Diver Lindsey Streepey ruled the Rolfs Friday night, winning both diving events.

Irish Wrap Up NCAA Zone C Meet

March 15, 2015

COLUMBUS, Ohio – For the second time in three days, University of Notre Dame junior diver Lindsey Streepey came heartbreakingly close to qualifying for the 2015 NCAA Swimming & Diving Championships, as she placed ninth on the platform dive with 459.05 points.

The Dallas, Texas native missed automatically qualifying for the NCAA meet by one spot and just over seven points.

What makes Streepey’s effort so remarkable, however, is that the Irish don’t regularly practice the event since Rolfs Aquatic Center doesn’t have a platform tower.

In addition to minimal practice time, the Irish competed on the platform just two times this year prior to today’s meet – at Iowa in December and at the ACC Championships a few weeks ago.

Two days prior, Streepey placed 10th on the 3-meter board, with the top nine qualifying automatically to NCAAs.

Teammate Emma Gaboury placed 19th on the platform to wrap up her meet.

Senior Allison Casareto will join senior swimmer Emma Reaney at next weekend’s NCAA Championships. Casareto will dive off the 1- and 3-meter boards, while Reaney will swim the 100 and 200 breaststroke and the 200 IM.
