PACIFIC PALISADES, Calif. & WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. – The University of Notre Dame women’s tennis team wrapped the first weekend of fall competition on Sunday at both the Riviera/ITA All-American Championships and the Purdue Fall Invitational.
Junior Monica Robinson fell in the final round of prequalifying at the Riveria Tennis Club in the All-American Championships as North Carolina’s Jessie Aney picked up a 6-3, 6-4 victory. Robinson will play again in the doubles main draw later this week.
The Irish also wrapped up singles play at the Schwartz Tennis Center at Purdue on Sunday, with freshman Rachel Chong and sophomore Brooke Broda picking up wins. Chong defeated Kristina Vozniak (Miss St), 3-6, 7-6(3), 7-5, while Broda upended Illinois’ Daniela Pedraza Novak, 6-1, 6-3, and was the only Irish player to collect three wins in three weekend matches.
The Irish will continue play this week at the All-American Championships as senior Quinn Gleason takes on Oklahoma State’s Vladica Babic on Tuesday in the qualifying singles bracket, and both Robinson and Gleason compete in the doubles main draw beginning Thursday.
