Dec. 4, 2008

NOTRE DAME, Ind. – Chrissie McGaffigan has signed a national letter of intent to continue her tennis career with the Irish, head coach Jay Louderback announced Thursday.

The Bettendorf, Iowa native was ranked as high as 28th nationally among collegiate recruits in 2007, according to tennisrecruiting.net, and is currently the No. 1 recruit in the state of Iowa. McGaffigan ranks third regionally and is 52nd in the nation.

“We’re excited to get such a quality person in Chrissie,” Louderback said. “Her athleticism is a tremendous upside that she brings to the college game. She’ll bring a lot to the table both on and off the court.”

McGaffigan, who also competes for the volleyball, basketball and golf teams at Bettendorf High School, holds a 15-4 juniors record in 2008, including a 3-1 mark against fellow five-star recruits and an 8-2 record against four-star recruits. She won the National Interscholastic Championship at Lexington, Ky., a year ago and advanced to the round of 16 at the 2008 USTA National Open.

The Irish women’s tennis squad will begin the dual-match portion of their 2008-09 schedule on Jan. 25 at Ohio State. They open play at home against Michigan on Feb. 6.
