Nov. 5, 2008

NOTRE DAME, Ind. – The Notre Dame women’s tennis team will wrap up its fall schedule this weekend at the ITA National Indoor Championships and the Midwest Blast.

After winning the ITA Midwest Regional doubles title, senior Kelcy Tefft and freshman Kristy Frilling earned a berth to the ITA National Indoor tournament set for Nov. 6-9 at the Boar’s Head Sports Club in Charlottesville, Va. Tefft will also compete in the women’s singles tournament.

Frilling and Tefft are 10-0 in doubles action this fall and have knocked off two top-20 teams. The 43rd-ranked Tefft is 8-3 in singles play and narrowly missed the singles title at the Midwest Regional, falling to Northwestern’s No. 30 Samantha Murray in three sets in the final match.

A year ago, Tefft and Brook Buck gave Notre Dame its second-ever collegiate grand slam title when they won the ITA National Indoor doubles tournament.

Other members of the Irish squad will close out the fall-portion of their schedule at the Midwest Blast hosted by Illinois Nov. 7-9 in Champaign.

Collectively, the Irish have compiled a 38-15 singles record with a 23-7 mark in doubles play this fall.

The Irish open up their dual-match schedule against Ohio State on Jan. 25.
