Irish Women's Tennis Set to Host ITA Kickoff Weekend

NOTRE DAME, Ind. – The sixth-ranked Irish women’s tennis team will take to the courts at the Eck Tennis Pavilion for the first time this season when they host Boise State, DePaul and North Carolina as part of the ITA Kickoff Weekend.

No. 33 Boise State and No. 17 North Carolina will face off in the weekend’s first match at 10 a.m. Saturday, followed by Notre Dame and No. 46 DePaul at 3 p.m. Saturday’s winners will face off on Sunday with the team winning both its matches advancing to the ITA National Team Indoor Championships in Madison, Wis., Feb. 12-15. The losers of Saturday’s contests will also play a consolation match on Sunday.

The Irish are 2-0 this season after convincing wins at Iowa and Wisconsin. Notre Dame topped the Hawkeyes, 6-1, before sweeping the Badgers, 7-0.

DePaul comes to the Eck with a 2-0 record after defeating Villanova and Butler. The Blue Demons are led by their ninth-ranked doubles team of Anna Redesci and Selma Salkovic.

No. 43 Pichittra Thongdach and Boise State are 2-0 with wins over Montana and Montana State. North Carolina brings a strong group of doubles teams and a 3-0 mark with wins over Winthrop, Kentucky and Minnesota. The Tar Heels have three ranked doubles teams in No. 6 Sophie Grabinski and Sanaz Marand, No. 22 Katrina Tsang and Shinann Featherston and No. 28 Haley Hemm and Jocelyn Ffriend.
