SOUTH BEND, Ind. – The University of Notre Dame women’s tennis team handed the eighth-ranked Miami Hurricanes their fourth loss of the season Friday night at the Eck Tennis Pavilion. The Fighting Irish, ranked 44th, earned the doubles point and got wins in the top four flights to earn the victory.
The pairing of Julia Andreach and Yashna Yellayi earned the first win of the evening, earning a 6-2 decision at No. 2 doubles. Maria Olivia Castedo and Page Freeman took care of business at the top flight, 6-4 for the first point of the day.
Freeman kept things moving in singles as she defeated 90th-ranked Eden Richardson in straight sets, 6-1, 6-3. Andreach added a 7-5, 6-2 victory at No. 2. After falling at No. 6, Nibedita Ghosh earned a 6-1, 4-6, 6-3 win at No. 4 for the third point. A hard-fought match at No. 5 fell the way of the Hurricanes before Notre Dame took the winning point with a 7-6 (5), 5-7, 7-6 (4) at No. 3 by Yashna Yellayi.
