Irish Swimming And Diving Play Host To Utes On Eve Of Football Matchup

Nov. 11, 2010

NOTRE DAME, Ind. – On the eve of the football match between the two programs, Notre Dame and Utah will square off in men’s swimming and diving action Friday afternoon at the Rolfs Aquatic Center. In the final dual meet of the fall slate, the Irish and Utes are set to begin the non-conference meeting at 5:00 p.m. (ET). Live results will be available on UND.com.

“This will be a great meet for both programs,” Irish head coach Tim Welsh said. “With it being the last dual meet of the fall season, we want to make sure we give it our all here in our pool. It will be a pleasure to have Utah here on the eve of the football game between the two schools, and there will be a lot of excitement in the air as a number of family, friends and fans will be in town.”

The Utes were last on the campus for the 2005 Notre Dame Invitational when they finished second to the Irish.

Notre Dame enters the contest with a 2-2 record while receiving votes in the CollegeSwimming.com dual meet poll. The Irish fell to Purdue last Saturday by a score of 173-127. However, Notre Dame claimed five individual wins against the Boilermakers as Frank Dyer, Christopher Johnson, Christopher Wills, Joshua Choi and Michael Sullivan each swam to first-place finishes.

Utah is coming off a 151-141 setback to Denver.

Notre Dame and Utah have meet twice in dual meet fashion over the last seventeen years. The first meeting came Oct. 16, 1993, when the Irish suffered a 149-94 defeat at the Ute’s home facility. In 2004, Notre Dame evened the series at 1-1 with a 123-118 victory.
