Irish Swimmers Gain Experience At 2007 ConocoPhillips Swimming National Championships

INDIANAPOLIS – Notre Dame women swimmers wrapped up competition at the 2007 ConocoPhillips USA Swimming National Championships in Indianapolis, Ind., gaining experience and practice through the summer competition.

Former Irish athlete Katie Carroll (Toledo, Ohio/Notre Dame Academy) saw the most success finishing ninth in both the 200-meter fly (2:11.04) and the 400-meter freestyle (4:13.08). On relay teams, competing with Club Wolverine, Carroll swam in the third-place 800-meter freestyle relay and 5th in the 400-meter freestyle relay.

Other current and incoming members of the Notre Dame women’s swimming team also competed through the national championship. Rounding out some of the top finishes included Claire Hutchinson’s (Baltimore, Md./McDonogh) 18th-place finish in the 1,500-meter freestyle (16:55.98), Ashlee Edgell’s (Cincinnati, Ohio/Madeira) 31st-place finish in the 400-meter individual medley (4:57.07) and Christa Riggins (Phoenix, Ariz./Sunnyslope) 26th-place finish in the 400-meter freestyle (4:18.20).

Athletes also competed in relays with club teams and posted high marks in that area as well. Incoming freshman Lauren Sylvester (Philadelphia, Pa.) was a member of the 12th-place 800-meter freestyle relay (8:17.92) with Germantown Academy while Riggins brought in a 22nd-place finish with the Golden West Swim Club in the 400-freestyle relay (3:54.14).

Other Irish competitors at the national meet included incoming freshman Kellyn Kuhlke (Plano, Texas), Amywren Miller (Grosse Pointe Woods, Mich.) and Lauren Parisi (Hauppauge, N.Y.).
