NOTRE DAME, Ind. – Notre Dame continues its swing of four straight dual meets on the road when it travels to Purdue (Nov. 4) and Valparaiso (Nov. 5) for non-conference men’s swimming and diving action. The Irish (3-1) picked up a BIG EAST Conference win at Pittsburgh, 193-107, in its last competitive action on Oct. 28.
The matchup with the Boilermakers will begin at 5:00 p.m. (ET), with the meet at Valparaiso beginning at noon.

“This is an important weekend for us in several aspects as we continue to get a better idea of what our championship lineup may look like,” Irish head coach Tim Welsh said. “Competing against Purdue in its home pool is the kind of challenge we look forward to. And swimming in back-to-back meets will provide the opportunity for a lot of our student-athletes to take part in a number of events. We hope to start well on Friday and finish strong at Valparaiso.”
This will be the seventh straight season in which Notre Dame and Purdue will face each other. Purdue has won five of the last six dual meets with Notre Dame’s last win in the series coming by a 156-144 margin on Nov. 3, 2006.
United States Olympic team diver David Boudia reset his own Rolfs Aquatic Center records in the 1- and 3-meter events while vaulting Purdue to a 173-127 win over Notre Dame when the two teams met last season. Boudia, who held the previous facility records from a pair of efforts when the Boilermakers visited Notre Dame in 2008, posted 473.47 points off the 3-meter board with a 394.95 in the 1-meter version for the individual sweep.
Three of Notre Dame’s current swimmers logged individual wins against Purdue during that same meet: Frank Dyer (200 free), Christopher Johnson (100 breast), and Joshua Choi (200 breast).
While the two programs have swim alongside each other on numerous occasions in invitationals and relay meets, Notre Dame and Valparaiso have met only once in head-to-head combat. That meeting took place at Valparaiso on Feb. 14, 1987, with the Irish coming home with an 81-21 win under their belt.
Notre Dame (2nd) outscored Valpo (5th), 156-84, when the Irish played host to the Crusaders last month in the season-opening Dennis Stark Relays and the Rolfs Aquatic Center.
