MINNEAPOLIS, Minn. – The Notre Dame women’s swimming and diving team is in third place after day one of the Minnesota Invite in Minneapolis. Notre Dame scored 215 points and trails Wisconsin at 260 points and Minnesota at 246.50. Iowa is in fourth at 176.50.

For the Irish, sophomore Carrie Nixon won the 50 freestyle in a time of 23.59 and was the only Notre Dame eventwinner of the day. Notre Dame divers took three of the top six spots in the 1-meter springboard as Heather Mattingly placed third with 425.40 points, followed by Gina Ketelhohn in fourth at 398.35 and Jessica Johnstone in sixth with 370.90 points.

Other event results for the Irish include the 200 free relay placing sixth in a time of 1:37.55; Alison Newell finishing fifth in the 500 free in a time of 4:59.71 and Shannon Suddarth winning the consolation race of the 200 individual medley in a time of 2:08.51.

The Minnesota Invite continues through Sunday at the University Aquatic Center on the University of Minnesota campus.
