ANOTHER BIG CHALLENGE ON TAP – The Notre Dame baseball team (2-6) will continue its challenging start to the 2007 season today, when it faces a Nebraska team (5-2) ranked as high as 7th in the nation … sophomore RHP David Phelps will be looking to knock off a top-ranked team for the second straight week, after beating a TCU team that was ranked as high as 12th (earning him a spot on the BIG EAST Conference weekly honor roll) … Phelps entered the week ranked 7th among the BIG EAST’s early strikeout leaders (12), also 8th in ERA (0.82) and 10th in innings (11.0) … Nebraska – which is slated to face Iowa earlier on Sunday – will counter with sophomore LHP Drew Bowman (5.00 ERA, 1-0, 9 IP, 3 GP/1 GS, 7 Ks, 1 BB, 10 H/.270 opp. avg.) … the series with Nebraska dates back to 1897 (ND leads 10-3), but the teams have met just four times since 1907 (ND won a 1991 game in Phoenix, 8-5, and won the 1995 matchup in San Antonio, 5-3 in 11, while Nebraska posted Metrodome wins over the Irish in 2003 and ’05, by scores of 7-1 and 11-1) … Phelps logged 2.0 relief innings in the 2006 game vs. the Huskers (R, H, 2 Ks).
