Irish Score Senior Day Sweep Of #36 Boston College

Zoe Spence, Cameron Corse & Bess Waldram win in singles action for Notre Dame.

NOTRE DAME, Indiana — Fighting for postseason positioning, the Notre Dame women’s tennis team secured a 4-0 sweep of No. 36 Boston College on Friday night at the Eck Tennis Pavilion. The victory for the Irish (12-11, 5-9 ACC) came in the regular season finale as the program celebrated graduate student Brooke Broda and senior Rachel Chong.

Zoe SpenceCameron Corse and Bess Waldram were winners in singles action over the Eagles (15-8, 5-8 ACC), while the Irish also secured the doubles point.

How It Happened

Waldram and Broda secured the first doubles match with a 6-1 win over Natasha Irani and Loren Haukova at court three, before Zoe Taylor and Ally Bojcuk clinched the point for the Irish with a 6-2 decision over Elene Tsokilauri and Laura Lopez. In a battle of nationally ranked doubles teams, Corse and Spence (No. 85) held a 5-2 lead over the 72nd-ranked pair of Kyle Wilcox and Jackie Urbinati when the doubles point was decided.

Singles action quickly went in Notre Dame’s favor to decide the match. Corse was first with a 6-2, 6-2 victory over Urbinati, before Waldram secured a 6-2, 7-5 decision over Lopez. The clincher came in another ranked showdown at the top of the lineup, where Spence (No. 67) defeated Kylie Wilcox (No. 103), 6-4, 6-4.

In abandoned matches, Bojczuk led Irani (6-3, 5-4), Broda was winning a tight contest with Tsokilauri (7-6, 2-2) and Taylor was on the verge of forcing a third set against Dasha Possokhova (6-7, 5-1).
