Irish Place Three On All-ACC Team

Brendan Gleason, Bryan Costabile and Charlie Leonard each earned the honor

NOTRE DAME, Ind. – Three members of the University of Notre Dame men’s lacrosse team received All-Atlantic Coast Conference Team accolades on Wednesday, as announced by the league office.

Senior attackman Brendan Gleason, junior midfielder Bryan Costabile and junior FOGO Charlie Leonard earned the recognition for the Irish.

Notre Dame’s three honorees make it five straight seasons the Irish have placed at least three student-athletes on the team.

Wednesday’s honors mark the second straight season Gleason and Costabile earned all-league distinction. The honors were voted on by the five league coaches.

Gleason (Essex, Vermont) has been Notre Dame’s best attackmen this season. The senior ranks second on the team in points (33) and goals (23), while adding 10 assists. Gleason has earned two ACC Offensive Player of the Week honors this season after big games in wins over Maryland (4G, 1A) and UNC (5G).

Seven of Notre Dame's incoming players are listed among Inside Lacrosse's top 100 freshmen.

Costabile (Sykesville, Maryland) has powered the attack from the midfield during the 2019 campaign, leading the team with 31 goals in 12 games of action. The 31 goals are a career high, besting last season’s total of 30. Costabile has had a number of big performances this season, totaling six hat tricks on the season, including two five-goal outbursts.

Leonard (Highlands Ranch, Colorado) has excelled at the X this season for the Irish, winning 59.1 percent of face-offs this season (162-of-274). The FOGO has recorded 20 face-off wins twice this season against Michigan and Cornell. Leonard has also won the face-off battle in 9-of-12 games this season.

With three selections to the 2019 All-ACC Team, Notre Dame now has 22 honorees over the six years of ACC competition.

The Irish will look to defend their ACC Championship title and win their third in six years this weekend at the ACC Championships in Chapel Hill, North Carolina. Notre Dame faces Duke in the semifinal round at 4:30 p.m. ET Saturday, April 27. ESPNU will broadcast the semifinals and title game of the ACC Championship and the entire tournament also will be available to stream on the WatchESPN app.
