NEW ORLEANS, La. – The Fighting Irish women’s golf team shot a 314 on the second day of play at the LSU Tiger/Wave Classic to move up from 16th to 10th place on Saturday afternoon. Junior Katie Conway (Wading River, N.Y./Shoreham-Wading River) led Notre Dame with a three-over par 75 at the English Turn Golf and Country Club.

Conway’s 75 was an eight shot improvement over her opening round 83 and moved her up 59 places on the leader board into a tie for 50th at 14-over par (158). She birdied the eighth and 18th holes, recorded 11 pars and had five bogeys on the day.

Sophomore Becca Huffer (Denver, Colo./Littleton) carded a four-over par 76 in her second round. After firing an even-par 72 in the first round, Huffer is one of two golfers tied for sixth at four-over par (148). Entering the final round of play, Huffer is four stokes off the lead, currently shared by Cydney Clanton of Auburn and LSU’s Megan McChrystal (E/144).

Senior co-captain Kristin Wetzel (Middletown, N.Y./Hilton Head (S.C.) Prep School) notched an eight-over par 80 on Saturday. Her consistent day avoided any doubles as she notched 10 pars and eight bogeys. After two rounds, she is tied for 74th (+17/161). Both of her rounds at the tournament have counted towards Notre Dame’s team score.

Junior So-Hyun Park (Seoul, South Korea/Bradenton (Fla.)/Preparatory Academy) took three shots off her first round total to card a second round 83 and round out the second round scoring for the Irish. She had birdies on the second and 14th holes.

Senior co-captain Annie Brophy (Spokane, Wash./Gonzaga Prep) shot a 12-over par 84. She birdied the ninth but was hurt by seven bogeys and three doubles. She joins Conway in a tie for 50th.

Through two rounds of play, Auburn and LSU are tied for the lead at 25-over par in the impressive 23-team field, which includes 11 top-25 ranked squads.
