EAST LANSING, Mich. & BLOOMINGTON, Ind. – Three University of Notre Dame women’s tennis student-athletes remain standing in the late rounds of the ITA Midwest Regional Championship, while a pair of doubles squads claimed top honors at the IU Regional after play Saturday.
Senior Monica Robinson and juniors Allison Miller and Brooke Broda each claimed straight-set singles victories Saturday to advance to Sunday’s Round of 16. Robinson defeated Michigan State’s Davina Nguyen, 6-2, 6-1, while Miller upended Northern Illinois’ Adey Osabuohien, 6-3, 7-5, and Broda breezed by Wisconsin’s Maria Avgerinos, 6-0, 6-4.
Robinson and Broda will continue doubles play, as well, after advancing to the quarterfinal with a win Saturday. They defeated Illinois’ Madie Baillon and Jaclyn Switkes, 8-4, to remain in play at Michigan State.
Play at the ITA Midwest Regional continues Sunday with two rounds of doubles and singles.
At Indiana, both Irish doubles squads collected top recognition, with senior Jane Fennelly and freshman Bess Waldram winning the doubles championship and sophomore Rachel Chong and freshman Zoe Spence winning the double consolation championship.
Play concludes Sunday with the final round of singles. Wardram is into the final of Flight 2.

Joanne Norell, athletics communications assistant director at the University of Notre Dame, has been part of the Fighting Irish athletics communications team since 2014 and coordinates communications efforts for the Notre Dame women’s soccer, men’s tennis, women’s tennis and fencing programs. Norell is a 2011 graduate of Purdue University, where she earned a bachelor’s degree in mass communication, and earned her master’s degree in sports industry management from Georgetown University in 2013.
