Irish In Fourth-Place Following First Two Rounds Of BIG EAST Championship

DADE CITY, Fla. – The Notre Dame women’s golf team finds itself in fourth-place after the first day of play at the BIG EAST Championship at the par 72, 5,968-yard Lake Jovita Golf and Country Club. The Fighting Irish posted a 304 (+16) in Monday morning’s first round and followed that up with a 316 (+28) in the afternoon for a 620 total. Junior Noriko Nakazaki (Hanover Park, Ill./Hoffman Estates) carded a team-best five-over par 149 (71-78) on the day for the Irish and is tied for fourth overall. Louisville leads the seven-team field with a 590 (+14).

Nakazaki was in first place following the first round after carding a one-under par 71, the second-lowest round of the day for any golfer. Louisville’s Adrienne White shot a three-under par 69 during the afternoon and leads the 35-golfer field with a one-under par 143. She is joined in the top-three by her Cardinal teammates Cindy LaCrosse (146) and Cristina Gonzalez (148).

Georgetown is 13-shots behind Louisville with a 603 and in second-place after storming back with a 295 during the second round. South Florida, the host for the tournament, is third with a 616 followed by Notre Dame’s 620 total.

Fighting Irish senior Lauren Gebauer (Columbus, Ohio/Upper Arlington) is tied for 11th with a nine-over par 153 (74-79) and her classmate Katie Brophy (Spokane, Wash./Gonzaga Prep) is tied for 15th with a 156 (77-79). Gebauer was tied for fourth following the first round and Brophy was tied for 12th.

Senior Suzie Hayes (Dublin, Ireland/Loreto College) registered a 162 (82-80) on the day and is tied for 28th, while freshman Lisa Maunu (St. Thomas, Ontario/Parkside Collegiate Institute) is tied for 33rd with a 169 (82-87). Today marked Notre Dame’s first competitive action in over a month as the Irish had to withdraw from its last scheduled tournament due to travel problems.

Nakazaki will be looking for her third straight All-BIG EAST honor as she and the rest of the Irish tee it up on Tuesday for the third and final round.
