Irish Host Wake Forest and Virginia Tech

SOUTH BEND, Ind. – The Notre Dame Fighting Irish are back in Purcell Pavilion this Friday and Sunday after defeating Syracuse and Boston College on the road last weekend for the 2-0 weekend sweep. The Irish will host Wake Forest on Friday, Oct. 14 and take on the Virginia Tech Hokies on Sunday, Oct 16.

SETTING THE STAGE 

• Notre Dame is back at home as they take on Wake Forest on Friday, Oct. 14 at 6:30 p.m. and then host Virginia Tech on Sunday, Oct. 16, to face the Hokies at 1:00 p.m.

• The game on Friday against the Demon Deacons will be on ACC Network Extra and Sunday’s matchup versus Virginia Tech will be broadcasted on the ACC Network.

HISTORY VS. WAKE FOREST

• This will be the 12th meeting between the Irish and the Deacons with Notre Dame leading the overall series 7-4. 

• The Irish have won six of the last seven matchups (winning from 2016-2021) with Wake Forest winning the last matchup on Oct. 15, 2021 in three sets (22-25, 23-25, 21-25) on their home floor. 

HISTORY VS. VIRGINIA TECH

• This will be the 14th meeting between the Irish and the Hokies with Notre Dame leading the overall series 10-3.

• Notre Dame has won the last seven matchups against Virginia Tech as they have been on a winning streak since 2016. The last Hokie win against the Irish was Nov. 6, 2015 in three sets in Purcell Pavilion (25-27, 20-25, 20-25).

LAST WEEKEND’S matches against SYRACUSE AND BOSTON COLLEGE
  The Irish finished the weekend 2-0 as they took down Syracuse in a three set sweep (25-21, 25-23, 25-20) and gave the Orange their first ACC loss of the year. On Sunday, the Irish completed the weekend with another win as they took down the Eagles in four (29-27, 25-21, 13-25, 25-23).

• Paris Thompson finished with an impressive 20 kills against the Orange on Sunday, where she averaged 6.67 kills per set. Thompson finished with 26 kills on the weekend. 

• Setter Phyona Schrader dished out 70 assists on the weekend and libero Hattie Monson tallied 39 digs. 

• Avery Ross finished with 19 kills on the weekend followed by Kaylyn Winkler who finished with 16 kills and 11 blocks.  Winknler finished with eight blocks against Boston College, followed by Lauren Tarnoff who tallied seven blocks against the Eagles.
