PITTSBURGH – Riding high after a sweep of the 1- and 3-meter diving events to begin the 2012 BIG EAST Conference Men’s Swimming and Diving Championships, Notre Dame held on to its lead with a trio of school records and second-place relay finishes Wednesday evening at Trees Pool.

Notre Dame leads the pack with 197 points. Pittsburgh (132) is second and West Virginia (110) is tied with Louisville for third among the 11-team field.

The Irish placed second in the 800 free relay (6:24.11) for the first of its three school records on the day. Notre Dame’s previous best was 6:27.19, which was set during the program’s 2009 title run when the league meet was held in Indianapolis.

Sophomore Frank Dyer went 1:33.71 to begin the 800 free relay – one of the nation’s fastest 200-yard times on the season – which also reset the program’s best mark.

In the 200 medley relay, Notre Dame tapped the wall third in a school-record 1:28.73. The previous record (1:28.86) was set during last season’s BIG EAST conference meet.

The four-day swimming portion of the championships continues with Thursday’s preliminary session at 10:00 a.m. (ET). Live coverage will be available at UND.com.
