Irish Hockey To Wear Special Jerseys At Frozen Fenway

Dec. 17, 2013

Notre Dame, Ind. – When the Notre Dame hockey team takes the ice at Fenway Park on Saturday, Jan. 4, 2014 against Boston College, the Irish will be sporting new-look jerseys and socks to salute the team’s appearance at Citi Frozen Fenway 2014 against the Eagles.

The jerseys, designed by Reebok and Exclusive Pro Sports, are blue with special gold material used for the striping, the numbers, the crest and the nameplates called Lurex metallic gold that gives the gold a glitter effect that mirrors the gold helmets worn by the Notre Dame hockey team. The jerseys have two gold stripes on each arm and two around the bottom. The name IRISH is displayed across the front with the ND logo under it with both being in an Old English font that is a similar font to the one that the Boston Red Sox use in tribute to playing at historic Fenway Park.

The jerseys have the gold piping around the collar with a blue string tie at the neck. Gold numbers appear on each sleeve and on the back and are also in the Old English font.

Inside the tail of the jersey is a small green commemorative pennant that states – N.D. vs. B.C., Boston, Mass., Jan. 4, 2014.

The socks worn by the Irish at Frozen Fenway are the blue Reebok socks with two Lurex metallic gold stripes with one blue in the middle.

Fans can purchase replica jerseys now at the Follett’s Bookstores on the Notre Dame campus, including the Irish Hockey Shop located on the main concourse of the Compton Family Ice Arena.

Frozen Fenway includes two games on Jan. 4 at Boston’s Fenway Park. In the opening game at 4:00 p.m., Providence College faces Merrimack College. At 7:30 p.m., the Irish will battle Boston College at the home of the World Series champion Boston Red Sox. Both games will count in the Hockey East standings.

The Irish are currently 10-7-1 overall and are 3-4-1 in Hockey East action. The team is currently in finals and will break for the Christmas holidays until returning to practice on Dec. 28.

This is Notre Dame’s second appearance in an outdoor game. Last season, the Irish faced Miami (OH) in the OfficeMax Hockey City Classic at Soldier Field in Chicago, Ill. They won that contest, 2-1.

Tickets for Citi Frozen Fenway 2014 are still available and can be purchased at redsox.com/frozenfenway or by calling (877) RED-SOX9. Prices start as low as $5.00 and tickets are good for both games.
