Irish Fall To Duke In ACC Opener

NOTRE DAME, IN. – The Irish took on the No. 21/23 Duke in Purcell Pavilion in their ACC opener on Wednesday evening, falling to the Blue Devils by a final score of 75-65.

Two members of the Irish finished in double figures in the scoring column, as Dane Goodwin had an especially impressive performance scoring a season-high 25 points and junior Prentiss Hubb added 12.

Junior transfer Trey Wertz began his career with the Irish and finished with nine points in his debut. 

HOW IT HAPPENED

The first half of the game proved challenging for Notre Dame as Duke’s aggressive offense created a lead that lasted the entirety of the first 20 minutes. The visitors took a 41-34 lead into the break. Dane Goodwin was a key contributor making five of the Irish’s last eight field goals in the final 10 minutes. 

Notre Dame struggled to match Duke’s accuracy in the second half, failing to get it closer than five points of the lead. The Irish fell to Duke 75-65.

NOTRE DAME PLAYER OF THE GAME

Goodwin had a stellar game against the Blue Devils. The Junior guard broke two personal records scoring 25 points, a career high, and making four three-point shots, a season high. Goodwin also maintained an impressive 83.3 shooting percentage on a 10-of-12 effort from the field.
