Irish End Up Eighth At Lady Boilermaker Invitational

April 10, 2005

WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. – The Notre Dame women’s golf team ended up right where it began Sunday’s final round at the Lady Boilermaker Invitational, finishing eighth in the 13-team field at 57-over par 921 (303-308-310). The Irish placed 23 shots behind Michigan and TCU, which shared the tournament title at 898 — the Wolverines carded a final-round 292 to pull even on the par-72, 6,025-yard Kampen Course at the Birck Boilermaker Golf Complex in West Lafayette, Ind.

Junior co-captain Katie Brophy (Spokane, Wash./Gonzaga Prep) was the top individual finisher for Notre Dame, tying for 18th place at 13-over par 229 (74-77-78), 12 strokes behind tournament medalist Amanda Costner of Kansas. It marks the sixth time in 10 events this year, and the second time this spring that Brophy has posted the low tournament score for the Irish.

Sophomore Stacy Brown (The Woodlands, Texas/The Woodlands HS) shot a team-best 75 in the final round and jumped into a tie for 26th place overall at 15-over par 231 (78-78-75). Senior Karen Lotta tied for 34th place, winding up two strokes behind Brown at 17-over par 233 (75-78-80). Sophomore Noriko Nakazaki (Hanover Park, Ill./Hoffman Estates HS) tied for 45th place at 21-over par 237 (79-75-83), while freshman Jane Lee (Palos Verdes Estates, Calif./Peninsula HS) was in a 48th-place tie at 23-over par 239 (79-83-77). Freshman Alejandra Diaz-Calderon (Guadalajara, Mexico/American HS) rounded out the Irish scoring in a tie for 65th place at 31-over par 247 (76-80-91). Teams were playing a “six-count-four” format, where the four lowest individual scores are applied to the team total.

Notre Dame will have a quick turnaround as it tees off in the Lady Buckeye Invitational, hosted by Ohio State, on April 16-17 in Columbus, Ohio. That will serve as the final tune-up for the Irish prior to the BIG EAST Conference Championship, slated for April 23-24 at Notre Dame’s Warren Golf Course.
