Irish Earn Senior Day Win Over Virginia Tech

NOTRE DAME, IN —

The University ofย  Notre Dame men’s basketball team (19-12, 10-10), powered by a game-high 22 points from senior T.J. Gibbs, earned a 64-56 victory over the Virginia Tech (16-15, 7-13) in Purcell Pavilion Saturday afternoon.

Notre Dame took control early in the game, compiling an 11-0 run while Virginia Tech suffered through a shooting slump with the Hokies missing 16 consecutive shots. Notre Dame took an 11-point lead into the break and built a 15-point lead with 10:00 minutes left in the second half.

Sophomore Dane Goodwin added 13 points, nine rebounds and four assists off of the bench while senior John Mooney added seven points, 13 rebounds and three steals.

PLAYER OF THE GAME

In his final regular-season home game in Purcell Pavilion, senior T.J. Gibbs led the Irish with 22 points, shooting five-for-eight from three-point range.

The Notre Dame offense was very productive from deep, knocking down 10 threes on 26 attempts. Gibbs was the most prolific shooter for the Fighting Irish, draining five treys in the contest. Six different players connected on at least one three pointer in the game.
