Irish Drop 2-0 Decision To VT In Regular Season Finale

NOTRE DAME, Ind. — Notre Dame wrapped up the regular season on Friday evening at Alumni Stadium, falling to Virginia Tech by a final score of 2-0 on Senior Night.

HOW IT HAPPENED

The Irish nearly scored the opening goal in the 20th minute, as Jack Lynn was played into the box but the Virginia Tech keeper came off his line to make the save.

Less than four minutes before the half the visitors managed to grab the lead off a goal from Kahlil Dover.

Just over six minutes into the second half the Hokies doubled their lead. Keagan McLaughlin made a great kick save before Virginia Tech’s Jacob Labovitz put in the rebound to make it 2-0. A minute later McLaughlin was sent off with a straight red card for making a save with his hands from outside the box.

Despite being reduced to 10 men, the Irish created a number of chances to try to get back in the match. The best chance came from Dawson McCartney, who had an effort strike the post in the 71st minute.
