Feb. 10, 2015

NOTRE DAME, Ind. – The Atlantic Coast Conference announced weekly award winners late Tuesday afternoon, with University of Notre Dame sophomore diver Joseph Coumos earning recognition for his school record-breaking performance in the three-meter event last weekend. This is the third time in two years Coumos has won the weekly honor, and the first time an Irish competitor has been honored in 2014-15.

Against Cleveland State, Coumos swept both the 1-meter and 3-meter competitions, etching a score of 361.35 in the 1-meter and setting the new highest score in the 3-meter competition with a 409.27 score.

The sophomore from Tomball, Texas was also named ACC Diver of the week on Nov. 19th and Dec. 10th in the 2013-14 school year. He qualified for the NCAA Championships in his first year with the program, becoming the first diver to qualify since Michael Bulfin participated at the 2008 national championship meet in Federal Way, Wash.

Coumos, along with Irish teammates James Lichtenstein, Michael Kreft and Nick Nemetz will travel to McCamish Pavilion on the campus of Georgia Tech next week for the ACC men’s and women’s diving championships. The event takes place Mar. 19-21st along with the women’s swimming championships.

Other ACC weekly honors went to Duke’s Mike Seaberg (swimming) and Lindsay Schlichte (swimming), and Clemson’s Danielle Reitsma (diving).
