NOTRE DAME, Ind. – The University of Notre Dame women’s swimming and diving team closes out the fall portion of its 2012-13 schedule this weekend as the swimming team heads to the Ohio State Invitational, while the diving team travels to the Hawkeye Invitational.
The OSU Invitational will take place in the McCorkle Aquatic Pavilion on the campus of Ohio State University in Columbus, Ohio. The Hawkeye Invitational is set for the Campus Recreation and Wellness Center Pool on the campus of the University of Iowa in Iowa City, Iowa.
In Ohio, the Irish will meet up with an incredible field that features talented teams Florida, Indiana, North Carolina, Purdue, Stanford, Texas, Wisconsin and the host Buckeyes. All nine teams in the field are ranked in the latest CSCAA rankings with the Irish checking in at No. 21. Florida (No. 11), Indiana (No. 14), North Carolina (No. 15), Ohio State (No. 16), Purdue (No. 20), Stanford (No. 6), Texas (No. 5) and Wisconsin (No. 25) also find themselves in the top 25.
In Iowa, Notre Dame will dive against competitors from Denver, No. 22 Michigan, Nebraska, Northwestern, Washington State, Wisconsin-Milwaukee and the host Hawkeyes.
Notre Dame has turned in a strong fall thus far as a pair of swimmers are littered throughout the top of the BIG EAST standings. Sophomore Emma Reaney tops the league in the 100 and 200 breaststroke and is second in the 200 IM and third in the 400 IM, while senior Kim Holden is third in the 100 backstroke, second in the 200 back and second in the 100 butterfly.
In addition the relay teams are scattered throughout the top three, including the 200 and 400 medley relay teams that are both ranked first in the conference. The 200 free is ranked third, while the 400 free is second.
Nationally, Holden is 35th in the 100 back, 38th in the 200 back and 28th in the 100 fly.
Reaney is 11th in the 100 breast, 19th in the 200 breast, 12th in the 200 IM and 19th in the 400 IM.
The 200 medley relay team is 18th and the 400 medley relay squad is 25th.
Divers Jenny Chiang and Allison Casareto have racked up victories throughout the fall season as the two have totaled seven between the 1 and 3-meter disciplines.
