Irish Complete Impressive Fall

KALAMAZOO, Mich. & TEMPE, Ariz. – The University of Notre Dame women’s tennis team wrapped up a challenging fall tournament slate Sunday with bright performances at Western Michigan’s Bronco Super Challenge and Arizona State’s Thunderbird Invitational.

Bronco Super Challenge

Play concluded at the West Hills Athletic Club with one round of singles on Sunday, with the Irish going 2-2 to finish the weekend 7-5 at the Bronco Super Challenge.

Senior Brooke Broda wrapped up an undefeated weekend with a 6-2, 7-5 victory over Indiana’s Caitlin Bernard, while freshman Ally Bojczuk bested IU’s Natalie Whalen 6-1, 6-4.

ASU Thunderbird Invitational

The other half of the Irish wrapped the weekend with one round each of doubles and singles at Arizona State.

Senior Allison Miller and junior Rachel Chong won their doubles matches over San Diego’s Kati Kukaras and Nicole Anderson to finish the weekend 2-1. Each won in singles as well, with Miller defeating ASU’s Savannah Slaysman 6-1, 6-3 in the Maroon Draw and Chong besting Oklahoma’s Malene Stripp 6-4, 6-2 in the consolation finals.

The Irish finished the weekend with a 12-5 singles record and 2-4 doubles mark in Tempe.

The Irish will return to action in the new year when they take on Western Michigan in the dual season opener at 5 p.m. ET, Tuesday, Jan. 23, 2018, at the Eck Tennis Pavilion.

Joanne Norell, athletics communications assistant director at the University of Notre Dame, has been part of the Fighting Irish athletics communications team since 2014 and coordinates communications efforts for the Notre Dame men’s tennis, women’s tennis and fencing programs, in addition to overseeing production of the football Gameday Magazine. Norell is a 2011 graduate of Purdue University and earned her master’s degree from Georgetown University in 2013.
