NOTRE DAME, Ind. – After three weeks of training since a mid-November dual sweep of Valparaiso (219-60) and Wisconsin (171-126), the University of Notre Dame women’s swimming and diving team closes out the fall portion of the schedule this weekend as the Irish head to Iowa City, Iowa for the Hawkeye Invitational.

The three-day invitational is set up exactly as the NCAA Championships will be in March. Action at the Campus Recreation and Wellness Center begins at 11 a.m. (ET) every day with finals slated for 7 p.m. Friday and Saturday and 5 p.m. (ET) Sunday.

“We are prepared to perform well at this meet,” said head coach Brian Barnes. “We have gone back to hard work since our last meet and have really focused on the details of races on the swimming end.

“The fact that this meet has an NCAA format is great for us. It will help us gather a lot of information that we will be able to use at ACC’s and NCAA’s. Also we will have several individuals that will compete in a lot of events. It gives us a chance to see who can handle a large docket.”

Notre Dame will do battle with six other foes as Boise State, Denver, Iowa and Nebraska bring full squads while Washington State (Swimming Only) and Iowa State (Diving Only) bring partial teams.

Fans looking to follow the action can track the invitational through live stats or by paying for the video stream. Links for both are on UND.com and at the top of this release.

After going 0-3 against three ranked foes in October – No. 12 Auburn (180-120), No. 14 Indiana (155-145) and No. 17 Purdue (155.5-144.5) – the Irish stormed back in November with a perfect 4-0 mark as they took down ACC foes Pittsburgh (193-107) and Virginia Tech (162-138) in addition to the Crusaders and Badgers.

The divers will feel quite at home in Iowa as they competed at the same meet last season, taking eighth (96 points) against nationally-ranked teams that had full swimming and diving squads at the invitational.
