David Brown and his Notre Dame teammates will get their first taste of game action on Sat., Oct. 8 when the Irish icers faceoff in the annual Blue-Gold game.

Oxford, Ohio-Marty Guerin had one goal and two assist and goaltender Brandon Crawford-West stopped 23 shots to lead the ninth-ranked Miami RedHawks to a 5-0 win over Notre Dame Saturday night at Goggin Arena.

The loss, the third straight for the Irish, drops them to 0-3-1 on the year and 0-2-0 in CCHA play. Miami improves to 4-0-0 on the season and 2-0-0 in CCHA play.

The RedHawks outshot the Irish on the night, 43-23. For Crawford-West, it was his second shutout in four starts versus Notre Dame. David Brown made 38 saves in goal for the Irish.

For the second night in a row, Miami used the power play to their advantage as the scored three power-play goals on eight chances. Notre Dame was 0-for-9 when the Irish had the man-advantage.

Guerin had a hand in Miami’s first three goals. He set up the RedHawks first power-play goal at 2:57 when he fed Matt Christie in the right wing faceoff circle. Christie whipped a shot past Irish goaltender David Brown for his third goal of the year.

The second period was all Miami as the RedHawks poured 20 shots on the Notre Dame goal, scoring three times.

Guerin picked up his second assist at 7:09 as he fired a shot that Brown stopped in front. Chris Michael was able to dig the loose puck free and banged home the rebound through a screen for his second goal of the season and a 2-0 RedHawk lead.

Guerin picked up his third point of the night and his first goal at 12:11 when he scored an even-strength goal off a faceoff to the right of Brown. Christie won the draw and got a shot on goal that Brown stopped. Guerin pounced on the rebound for his fifth goal of the year.

The RedHawks got their third power-play goal of the night at 13:41 when Taylor Hustead flipped the rebound of a Geoff Smith shot past Brown for his second goal of the season.

Miami closed the scoring in the third period when Stephen Dennis fired a shot from the left point through a screen in front that got past Brown at 7:09 for the final margin of 5-0.

Notre Dame returns to action on Friday, October 22 when the Irish play host to No. 1 ranked Boston College at the Joyce Center. Faceoff is set for 7:35 p.m. (EST).
