Irish Blank Hokies on Senior Day

NOTRE DAME, Indiana — The Notre Dame Men’s Tennis team was victorious over the Virginia Tech Hokies in their final home match of the season, sending their senior members out in style.

The Irish quickly claimed the doubles point behind strong performances from a few of those seniors themselves. Brandon Ancona and William Howells won first at the two spot by a score of 6-2 and Tristan McCormick clinched the point, he and partner Axel Nefve putting their match away, the final score, 6-3.

Junior Axel Nefve led the charge in singles play, finding the first Irish win on court 1 over Mitch Harper in straight sets, 6-2, 6-4. At two singles, senior Richard Ciamarra was not far behind as he took his first set decisively, 6-1, and followed it up with a 7-5 second set to claim his match.

Tristan McCormick fought all the way through the first set, coming out on top by a tiebreak score of 7-5. He then took charge in the second set, winning 6-3, earning the third singles point for the Irish and ultimately the match.

With the win, Notre Dame moves to 14-9 overall and 7-5 in ACC play.

After the match, the team, parents, and fans safely celebrated the six seniors on the team and all they’ve done and accomplished as Fighting Irish. Matt Gamble, Brandon Ancona, Paul Gota, William Howells, Tristan McCormick, and Richard Ciamarra have all been and continue to be integral pieces of the Irish roster throughout their years here.
