The Notre Dame baseball team held its first practice of the 2007 fall season on Sept. 4 and will continue to hold fall workouts over the next six weeks, culminating with the annual Blue-Gold Series – with the three intrasquad games slated to be played midweek on the afternoons/early evenings of Oct. 16-18 (full details still TBA).
Notre Dame returns each of its all-BIG EAST performers from the 2007 season – junior righthander David Phelps, senior shortstop Brett Lilley and sophomore third baseman A.J. Pollock (who could be tried at the open center-field spot) – while welcoming a freshman class that is ranked among the best in the nation.
Several fall-baseball offerings and updates will be forthcoming on und.com throughout the next few weeks, including:
• Periodic practice reports from each member of the coaching staff, including new volunteer assistant Graham Sikes (who also will be highlighted in a “Getting To Know…” feature)
• An overview of the 2007 summer baseball league play for the Irish veteran players
• A pro baseball update with info. on various former ND players, including pitcher Dan Kapala (who recently signed with the New York Yankees organization) and recent triple-A call-up Matt Macri
• A preview of the Blue-Gold Series and full game recaps (video offerings also may be available – details TBA)
