Irish Baseball Makes Top-25 Debut

Feb. 25, 2013

NOTRE DAME, Ind. – The University of Notre Dame baseball team has moved into the most recent Perfect Game and Baseball America national polls at No. 22 and No. 23, respectively, following its sweep at Tulane. The Irish (5-1) are ranked in the Baseball America top 25 for the first time since May 2006.

Notre Dame’s three-game sweep of the Green Wave was the first by a non-conference opponent of Tulane since 1997. The Irish never trailed over the entire weekend and actually led at the completion of the last 22 innings.

Notre Dame did not break the top 25 in the Collegiate Baseball poll. This week’s National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association and USA Today polls have yet to be released.

Notre Dame returns to the diamond this weekend for the inaugural 2013 USA Baseball-Irish Classic presented by the Greater Raleigh Sports Alliance. The Irish will open the tournament against Massachusetts at 3 p.m. ET Friday at the USA Baseball National Training Complex in Cary, N.C. Notre Dame also plays Tennessee (Fri., 6:30 p.m. ET), Virginia Tech (Sat., 6 p.m. ET) and Rhode Island (Sun., 11 a.m. ET).
