Irish And Spartan Rematch Set

ESPN, the Atlantic Coast Conference and the Big Ten Conference have announced the matchups for the 19th annual ACC/Big Ten Challenge, to be played in late November of 2017.

Notre Dame will make the trip to East Lansing, Michigan, to face Michigan State at a date and time yet to be determined. The Irish and Spartans met on Dec. 3, 2014, at Purcell Pavilion and Notre Dame outlasted MSU 79-78 in overtime.

The Notre Dame – Michigan State basketball series is one of the longest running and prolific rivalry in Irish basketball history. Over the course of 95 meetings, the first of which was on January 31, 1908, at the Armory in East Lansing. The 2014 meeting, however, was the first between the two teams since 1979. Notre Dame leads the all-time series with Michigan State 59-36.

Notre Dame boasts a 3-1 record in the ACC/Big Ten Challenge, including a 92-78 victory over Iowa on November 29, 2016. The ACC won the 2016 Challenge with a 9-4 record, claiming a victory in the event for the first time since 2008.

ESPN, ESPN2 and ESPNU will combine to televise all 14 games of the event, matching top college basketball programs playing for conference supremacy and the Commissioner’s Cup. All games also will be available to stream via the ESPN app.
