CHAMPAIGN, Ill. — No. 34 Notre Dame Men’s Tennis opened the NCAA Tournament with a 4-1 victory over Western Michigan. With the victory, the Irish advance to Saturday’s Second Round to face the winner of No. 16 Illinois and DePaul.
Despite a victory from duo Matthew Che and Richard Ciamarra, the Irish would drop the doubles point to take a 0-1 deficit into singles play.
The Irish would knot the match at one apiece after a victory from Ciamarra and wouldn’t look back. William Howells, Connor Fu, and Brandon Ancona would go on to earn victories of their own to give the Irish the 4-1 victory over the Broncos.
