Irish Add Three to New Class

NOTRE DAME, Ind. — University of Notre Dame head women’s tennis head coach Alison Silverio has announced the signings of Yashna Yellayi, Carrie Beckman and Nibedita Ghosh. Beckman and Ghosh will join the Fighting Irish ahead of the 2021-22 season, while Yellayi will join the team in January.

Yellayi, from Hinsdale, Illinois, is set to graduate from Hinsdale Central High School and join the Irish for the spring semester. Ranked in the top 50 nationally, Yellayi most recently competed in the Chicago ITA Fall Circuit, where she advanced to the round of 16.

“Joining us in the spring of 2021,” Silverio said of Yellayi, “Yashna will bring a unique set of skills. She is a powerful lefty, that possesses great instincts on the court. We are confident she will blossom in our team environment and contribute positively through her competitive spirit, energy, and mental toughness. Yashna is ready to be a part of excellence and we welcome her to our Notre Dame family.”

Beckman is set to graduate from Sacred Heart Academy in Louisville, Kentucky. After winning back-to-back state titles in singles and helping Sacred Heart capture the team state championship, Beckman was the only Kentuckian selected to participate in the USTA Intersectionals in 2019. Beckman was also selected to play in the National Clay Court Tennis Tournament in which she made it to the championship game in a 128-player draw.

“We are extremely excited to welcome Carrie to our Notre Dame family,” Silverio said. “She is a fierce competitor and a gifted athlete with tremendous character. Carrie has an insurmountable work ethic and never gives up! She will be an invaluable addition to our program and Notre Dame. We know Carrie is committed to being excellent in the classroom, on the court, in our community, and for our team.”

Ghosh, hailing from Kendall Park, New Jersey, will graduate from South Brunswick High School before heading to Notre Dame. The fourth-ranked player out of New Jersey, Ghosh was creative during her recruitment process, walking around campus while in the area for an ITA Summer Circuit tournament in Grand Rapids, Michigan.

“Nibedita was consistent, professional, and adaptable through an unorthodox recruiting process,” Silverio said. “She embodies our values at Notre Dame and we are confident her development will progress exponentially in college. We believe Nibi will have an immediate impact on our team and in our campus community. An excellent student, pianist, person, and competitor! Welcome to our Notre Dame family, Nibi!”

The trio is set to join a talented Notre Dame team for the 2021-22 season that is slated to include sophomores Julia Andreach, Meg Coleman and Sydney Sforzo, junior Page Freeman, and seniors Maeve Koscielski and Julia Lilien.
