NOTRE DAME, Ind. – The University of Notre Dame women’s tennis team returns to action on Saturday when they head south to face Big Ten opponent Illinois in Urbana, Illinois.

On The Illini

  • Illinois enters the weekend with a 1-4 record and will welcome Middle Tennessee State on Friday before facing the Irish on Saturday. The lone win for the Illini came in the first round of the ITA Kick-Off Weekend against Georgia State, but have losses against Alabama, Washington, then-No. 6 Georgia and then-No. 14 Auburn.
  • Illinois is led in winning percentage by Madie Baillon who is 7-4 overall and 3-2 in dual play. Baillon and Jaclyn Switkes are 7-4 overall in doubles.
  • Notre Dame is 27-8 in the all-time series against Illinois, including 23-2 under head coach Jay Louderback.

Last Time Out

The Irish took their first loss of the season last Friday, falling to No. 13 Michigan 6-1 at the Eck Tennis Pavilion. Freshman Zoe Spence tallied the lone point for the Irish, winning in straight sets at No. 4 singles to improve to 4-0 on the season.

Rankings Rundown

Junior Brooke Broda and senior Monica Robinson entered the Oracle/ITA DIvision I National Women’s Doubles Rankings this week, debuting at No. 32. The duo are 8-4 overall on the season, and 2-2 in dual play.

Rating Recruiting

For the first time since 2014, the Irish will welcome a top-10 recruiting class in the fall of 2017, according to the Tennis Recruiting Network. The Irish will welcome a trio of five-star prospects in Caroline Dunleavy, Cameron Corse and Ally Bojczuk, who all signed National Letters of Intent during the November signing period.
