Incoming Irish Class Lauded By PrepVolleyball.com

June 8, 2012

NOTRE DAME, Ind. – Notre Dame’s incoming recruiting class recently was tabbed the nation’s 22nd-best by PrepVolleyball.com. The Irish volleyball staff has now yielded three straight top-25 classes, a first for the program since the inception of the rankings.

Notre Dame’s three-person 2011 class was tabbed 15th-best as the 2010 class was regarded as the 13th-best in the nation.

The Irish cover plenty of ground in the incoming class with a setter, middle blocker, outside hitter and libero. The quartet will replace graduated seniors Kristen Dealy (outside hitter) and Frenchy Silva (libero).

– The Irish bring four very strong athletes to South Bend.

Morey, ranked No. 31 in the Senior Aces and arguably the best defender in the country in her class, is the headliner.

“She controls the back court, has an excellent jump serve, and her defensive range is amazing,” said coach Debbie Brown about this Under Armour First Team All-America selection, who led her Burris team to a 147-7 record and three state titles over her four-year career.

Bonneval, ranked No. 86 in the Senior Aces and the 2011 Louisiana Gatorade POY, is an incredibly athletic player who can attack and block high above the net all across the front row. She will be expected to make an immediate impact for the Irish after leading her high school to the Louisiana Division I state championship.

Muzzonigro, rated among the nation’s top 250 seniors, is a strong leader who sets at a high level and creates havoc for her opponents. She has developed into an excellent attacker on the second ball and is certainly one of the best blocking setters in the nation in her class. Muzzonigro has tremendous upside and will be a competitor for a starting setting position next year.

Flynn might not have been ranked as a top recruit nationally, but adds tremendous power and quickness to the 2012 recruiting class. She is a hardworking, explosive middle blocker with the ability to take over matches. Extremely versatile and able to attack all across the front row, Flynn’s speed and one-footed attack will add depth in the middle for Notre Dame at a minimum.
