SOUTH BEND, Ind. – Chris Quinn scored 15 points and Dennis Latimore had career highs of 12 points and 11 rebounds to spark No. 21 Notre Dame to a 73-45 victory Tuesday night over Indiana-Purdue-Fort Wayne.

The Irish (2-0), who relinquished an 18-point lead before beating Harvard four nights earlier, took a 12-0 lead and never let the Mastodons (2-2) get close. IPFW used a 16-11 run to close to 30-18 at halftime, but the Irish pulled away after the break.

Quinn was 5-of-7 shooting, including 3-of-4 from 3-point range, as the Irish made 50 percent for the game.

Latimore, playing just his second game for Notre Dame after transferring from Arizona in 2003, bettered his previous high scoring night of 12 points against California and his previous high of nine rebounds against Duke.

He also showed off his athletic ability by repeatedly outjumping the smaller Mastodons, and with a highlight-reel backward slam on a fast-break basket five minutes into the second half. Chris Thomas sent Latimore on the fast break with a steal and an assist, and finished with 10 points and 11 assists.

Torin Francis added 11 points as everyone who played for Notre Dame scored except for walk-on Ben Nickol.

Beau Bauer led IPFW with 12 points. No one else scored in double figures for the Mastodons, who just 35 percent and were outrebounded 39-26.

Mastodons missed their first seven shots, going 0-of-5 from 3-point range.
