WEEKEND WITH THE LAKERS: The Fighting Irish hockey team will look to get back on the winning track when they travel to Sault Ste. Marie, Mich. for a two-game series versus the Lake Superior State Lakers on December 1-2…game time both nights at the Taffy Abel Arena is set for 7:05 p.m….the Irish go into the weekend with a 3-7-3 overall record and are 1-3-2 in CCHA play (11th in the league with four points) after a 3-1 loss and a 3-3 tie with Northern Michigan at home last weekend…ND is 1-2-2 in its last five games…Lake Superior State will come into the series with a 6-10-0 overall record and a 3-8-0 league mark (10th in the CCHA with six points) after losing a pair at Miami (OH), 3-2 and 6-2…the Lakers have lost three in a row and six of their last seven games…Notre Dame is 1-0-1 on the road in the CCHA this season and 1-2-2 (including neutral site games) away from the Joyce Center this season…following this week’s games, the Irish host Miami (12-8 and 12-9) and then travel to Nebraska-Omaha (12-19 and 12-20)…all 2000-01 Irish hockey games, with the exception of ND’s games at Alaska-Fairbanks (2/23 and 2/24) will be broadcast on WHLY radio (1620 AM) with the play-by-play also available via the internet at www.und.com…

IRISH VERSUS LAKERS: Notre Dame and Lake Superior have met 28 times in the all-time series with the Lakers enjoying an 18-8-2 edge…since ND rejoined the CCHA in 1992, the two teams have played 24 times with LSSU holding a 17-5-2 edge…in the last five games between the two schools, Notre Dame is 3-1-1 going back to the 1998-99 season…ND is 5-7-2 versus Lake State at the Joyce Center and just 3-9-0 (2-8-0 since rejoining CCHA) at Taffy Abel Arena…the Lakers have also won both games played on neutral ice…last season in two games, Notre Dame won 2-1 and fought to a 1-1 tie at the Joyce Center…

THE COACHES: Notre Dame head coach Dave Poulin owns a 74-106-25 mark (.422) in his sixth season at Notre Dame…Poulin is 4-8-2 in 14 meetings with the Lakers including 3-3-2 at Notre Dame and 1-5-0 at Lake Superior…Lake Superior State head coach Scott Borek is in his fifth season with the Lakers and has a 69-90-15 (.440) record…a 1985 graduate of Dartmouth College, Borek is 102-113-20 (.477) in his eighth year coaching college hockey…a year ago, Borek led the Lakers to an 18-16-4 record and third place in the league after being picked to finish eighth in the preseason…for his team’s strong finish, Borek was named the CCHA’s Coach of the Year…versus Notre Dame, Borek is 6-3-2…

IRISH UPDATE: Notre Dame picked up just one point in its weekend series versus Northern Michigan at the Joyce Center last weekend…on Friday, November 24, the Irish dropped a 3-1 decision…the following night, the two teams battled to a 3-3 overtime tie…in Friday’s game, the Irish scored first as David Inman (Jr., Toronto, Ont.), playing in his first game after missing the previous two with a concussion, scored on the power play at 4:46 of the first period for ND’s only lead of the game…Northern tied the game late in the second period and scored two goals in the third period for the 3-1 win…the Irish outshot the Wildcats, 32-27 on the night…Tony Zasowski (So., Darien, Ill.) made 24 saves in the loss…on Saturday night, Northern Michigan jumped out to a 2-0 lead with 3:07 left in the first period…at that point, Irish head coach Dave Poulin pulled starting goaltender Tony Zasowski and replaced him with Kyle Kolquist (Sr., Duluth, Minn.)…for Kolquist, it was just his third appearance in four seasons and his first since December 20, 1999…Kolquist sparked his team and almost pulled out the victory as he stopped 27 of 28 Northern Michigan shots the rest of the way…Rob Globke (Fr., West Bloomfield, Mich.) ignited the Irish comeback as he got his team-high seventh goal of the season at 19:55 of the first to cut the lead to 2-1…Globke was assisted by Ryan Dolder (Sr., Hutchinson, Minn.) – his first of two points in the game – and Dan Carlson (Sr., Edina, Minn.)…Carlson’s assist was the 100th (37g, 63a) point of his career making him the 38th player in ND history to reach the century mark…after a scoreless second period, the Irish tied the game at 4:45 of the third period when Aaron Gill (Rochester, Minn.) turned a Northern misplay in front of the net into his third goal of the season…Notre Dame would score late in the period at 18:45 as Dolder deflected a Brett Lebda (Fr., Buffalo Grove, Ill.) shot past Craig Kowalski to put the Irish ahead, 3-2…Northern pulled its goaltender and scored with the extra attacker when Chris Gobert’s shot from the left point was deflected by Sean Connolly for the tying goal at 19:15…Notre Dame was outshot in the game, 36-24, including 3-0 in overtime…on the weekend, the Irish extended their penalty killing streak to 23 consecutive as they have not given up an opponent power play goal over the last five games (since October 27 versus Michigan State)….

INJURY REPORT: Defenseman Tom Galvin (Fr., Miller Place, N.Y.) suffered severed tendons in his left arm at practice on November 2nd…he underwent surgery to repair the tendons and is out indefinitely. He has missed the last five games…the Irish have lost 25 man-games to injuries or illness this season…

STANDING ROOM ONLY: The standing room only crowd of 2,749 at the Notre Dame-Boston College game on November 10 was the largest crowd to watch a Notre Dame home hockey game since March 3, 1995 when a sellout crowd of 3,310 saw the Irish defeat Illinois-Chicago, 5-2…the capacity of the Joyce Center was reduced to 2,667 the following season (1995-96) when new seating was installed…this year, seating has increased to 2,713 due to relocation of the band…since capacity became 2,667 for the 1995-96 season, Notre Dame has played in front of 35 sellout crowds at the Joyce Center….

PENALTY KILLING PROWESS: The Fighting Irish continued their strong penalty killing in the month of November as they shut out Northern Michigan in both games of the weekend series…on Friday night, the Irish killed four-of-four Wildcat power plays and then went three-for-three the following night…Notre Dame has now killed off 23 consecutive shorthanded situations covering the month of November…the Irish have not given up a power play goal since October 27 versus Michigan State…for the season, Notre Dame has a killed 56 of 71 opponent power plays for a 78.9% success rate…

IRON MEN: Senior right wing Ryan Dolder (Hutchinson, Minn.) has now played in 77 consecutive games and was one of just two Notre Dame players to play in all 42 games last season…the other was senior left wing Dan Carlson (Edina, Minn.) who has now played in 132 of 135 games in his three-plus years at Notre Dame (missing two while at the ’98-’99 World Juniors)…Carlson needs to appear in 21 more games to break John Schmidt’s ND record for career games played (152, ’78-’82).

Closing The Deal: Notre Dame has built an impressive record in games that the Irish lead after two periods of play….ND is unbeaten in its last 44 games when holding a lead at the second intermission (38-0-6, including 11-0-3 in 1999-2000) … the Irish are 3-0-1 in 2000-01 when leading after two periods…the last time ND lost after holding a second-intermission lead was Jan. 9, 1998, in the second of three games at Alaska-Fairbanks … UAF’s Sean Fraser tied the game (2-2) with a power-play goal in the third minute of the final period before Chris Kirwan converted a breakaway with 0:45 left in overtime … the Irish also are 23-3-4 since the 1998-99 season when leading at the first intermission (10-1-1 in 1999-2000 and 1-1-1 in 2000-2001).

OVERTIME NUMBERS: Notre Dame is unbeaten in overtime in its last 14 overtime games going 3-0-11 since the beginning of the 1999-2000 season…the Irish are 1-0-3 this season and were 2-0-8 a year ago…the last time ND lost in overtime was March 5, 1999 at Miami…Notre Dame is also unbeaten in its last 14 home overtime games (3-0-11)…the last time the Irish lost in extra time at home was November 17, 1996 when the Irish fell to Mankato State, 4-3….

CENTURY CLUB: Senior right wing Dan Carlson has scored points in four of his last five games (2-4-6) giving him 10 points on the season and 100 for his career…Carlson got his 100th point on November 25 when he assisted on Rob Globke’s first period goal…the 100 points makes Carlson the 38th player in school history to reach 100 points for his career…

GLOBKE NAMED ROOKIE OF THE WEEK: Freshman Rob Globke was selected as the CCHA’s Rookie of the Week for the week ending October 22nd…the 6-2, 200-pound right wing had two goals and an assist in the three games versus Wayne State and Northeastern…he is the first Irish player to receive this honor since Tony Zasowski was named rookie of the week for the week ending January 24, 2000…

MORE GLOBKE: Freshman Rob Globke ranks among the top rookie scorers in the CCHA after his first 13 games…the Irish right wing comes into the week fourth in scoring with 11 points…Globke’s seven goals rank him second among rookie goal scorers, three behind Western Michigan’s Jeff Campbell who has 10…

FOUR IN A ROW...After not playing in five straight games (Oct. 13 – Oct. 26), sophomore goaltender Tony Zasowski has started the last six games for Notre Dame…over the six game span (318:45), Zasowski is 1-3-1 and has given up 16 goals on 158 shots for a 3.01 goals against average and a .899 save percentage…On the season, Zasowski is 1-5-1 with a 3.68 goals against and a .882 save percentage…

HOME SWEET HOME: The two games with Northern Michigan concluded ND’s run of eight of 10 games at home…during that 10-game span, the Irish were 3-5-2, including 2-4-2 in the eight home games…Notre Dame is 25-15-4 (.614) in the last three seasons at the Joyce Center…since the building opened, ND is 275-224-34 (.548) in 533 home games…

SHOOTING THE PUCK: After firing a season-high 42 shots on October 27 versus Michigan State, the Irish were held to just 45 shots in the weekend series at Miami…on Friday (11/3), Notre Dame had 23 shots on goal in the 5-2 win and on Saturday (11/4), the Irish got just 22 shots in the 1-1 tie…for the season, the Irish have outshot the opposition five times while being outshot five times…ND is 2-3-1 when it has more shots in a game and 1-3-1 when the Irish outshoot the opposition…on the season, ND is averaging 30.7 shots per contest…

FIVE GOAL OUTBURST: Notre Dame’s five-goal, second period outburst versus Northeastern marked the first time that the Irish have scored five goals in a period since November 2, 1996…that night at Bowling Green, ND scored five, third period goals to pull out a 7-5 win versus the Falcons…a year ago, Notre Dame only scored six or more goals in a game once, a 7-4 win over Nebraska-Omaha on February 12th…

THE KIDS ARE ALRIGHT: Through the first 13 games of the season, the Irish newcomers (seven freshman, one transfer) have shown their abilities by contributing to the ND attack with 11 goals and 16 assists for 27 of the team’s 84 points…that amounts to 32.4% of the goals, 32.0% of the assists and 32.1% of the team’s points…Rob Globke leads the way (7g, 4a), followed by Aaron Gill (Rochester, Minn.) with (3g, 4a), Brett Lebda (Buffalo Grove, Ill.) with (1g, 4a), Jon Maruk (Eden Prairie, Minn.) with (0g, 3a) and Tom Galvin with (0g, 1a)…

THE TOP OF THE LIST: Senior right wing Ryan Dolder has picked up where he left off last season as he is Notre Dame’s top scorer through the first 13 games of the season with six goals and six assists for 12 points…last season, Dolder closed out his junior year by scoring a goal in each of the Ferris State playoff games to help the Irish to a trip to the CCHA semifinals at Joe Louis Arena…he has points in his last two games (1-2-3) and has now picked up five multiple point games this season…versus Northeastern (10/20) he personally wiped out a 2-0 first period deficit as he scored a pair of goals just 19 seconds apart early in the second period…the Hutchinson, Minn. native had a goal and an assist in the 5-2 Irish win over Miami (11/3) and added another goal and assist game versus Northern Michigan (11/25)…

MAKING THE MOST OF A CHANCE: Sophomore defenseman Paul Harris (Ridgefield, Conn.) worked his way into the Irish lineup after battling injuries as a freshman and only playing in nine games …this season, Harris moved into the lineup at the Maverick Stampede after fellow soph Evan Nielsen (Evanston, Ill.) came down with the flu prior to the Boston College game…Harris has picked up two assists in 10 games this season and owns a team-best +4…

INMAN RETURNS: Junior David Inman returned to action versus Northern Michigan after missing two games due to a concussion suffered in the first game at Miami (11/3)…the 6-2 center scored his third power play goal of the season just 4:46 into the first Northern Michigan game…he leads the Irish with three power play goals this season…through 11 games, Inman has five goals and two assists for seven points…the former Wexford Raider is looking to build on two solid seasons at ND…as a freshman, Inman had 10 goals and 10 assists and followed that last season with 13 goals and seven assists…

STOPPING THE PUCK: Junior goaltender Jeremiah Kimento (Palos Hills, Ill.) made five consecutive starts from Oct. 14 through Oct. 26…during that streak, Kimento was 2-2-1 in the five starts with a 3.33 goals against and a .887 save percentage…he also saw action in each of ND’s first seven games…he has not played since October 26 versus Michigan State…

DID YOU KNOW: According to the CCHA, the average height and weight for a player in the league is six-foot tall and 188-pounds…Notre Dame’s average team height is 72.04 inches – just over six-feet tall – which ranks the Irish fifth in the league in that department…ND is the biggest team in the league weight-wise as the Irish tip the scales at an average of 195.96-pounds per player…
