Nov. 2, 2009

NOTRE DAME, Ind. – Two-time Irish All-American Luke Harangody (Schererville, Ind.) was the leading-voter on the Associated Press preseason All-America Team. Harangody, who has been selected as a second team Associated Press All-American each of the last two seasons, received 57 votes from the 65-member media panel.

The 6-8 senior forward was joined on the AP preseason team by Kansas junior Cole Aldrich (49 votes), Kansas senior Sherron Collins (39 votes), Kentucky junior Patrick Patterson (35 votes) and Duke junior Kyle Singler (30 votes).

The 2008 BIG EAST Player of the Year, Harangody was a preseason pick a year ago at the start of the 2008-09 campaign. He became the first player in BIG EAST history a year ago to lead the league in scoring and rebounding in consecutive seasons. Harangody averaged 23.2 points overall and grabbed 11.8 rebounds. In 18 BIG EAST contests, he netted 25.2 points and 12.8 rebounds.

Heading into his final campaign, he has 1,823 career points and needs 738 to break Austin Carr’s career scoring mark. In addition, he has 949 rebounds and is 370 short of breaking Tom Hawkins’ career rebounding mark. Harangody also could finish off his career as the all-time leading scorer and rebounder in BIG EAST history as he needs just 369 points (1,036 career points to date) and 162 rebounds (has 540) to become the conferences leader in those two categories.
