Greg Brown Joins Irish Volleyball as Volunteer Assistant Coach

NOTRE DAME, Ind. — Greg Brown will join the Irish as a volunteer assistant coach for the 2019 season, head coach Mike Johnson announced today.

“Greg is a coach whom I have known for a long time and have tremendous respect for,” said Johnson.  He is about the players and will do whatever it takes to make them better. We are fired up to have Greg on staff!”

Brown comes to Notre Dame from running the Sudden Impact Volleyball Club in Bellevue, Washington. With Sudden Impact, Brown has coached multiple teams that have qualified for  USA Volleyball’s Junior National Championships, including his 2015 17’s team that included current Irish senior Jemma Yeadon. 

Brown has also won multiple local and regional club tournaments, including the 2017 and 2019 16 Open Division of the Matt Hartner Memorial Classic in Eugene, Oregon. 

Brown, who recently retired after working for 33 years in local government as a Project Manager and Parks & Recreation Director, is a former NCAA DII National Champion soccer player at Seattle Pacific University. Brown is married to his wife Sherrie, a former setter at Eastern Washington University, and they have two children, Mathew and Michele.

The Irish enter 2019 after sweeping 11 opponents en route to a 16-12 record last season. Notre Dame will return four Second Team All-ACC honorees, including Sydney Bent, Charley Niego, Zoe Nunez and Jemma Yeadon. Bent, Niego and Nunez each earned ACC All-Freshman Team accolades and Niego was also named an AVCA honorable mention All-American.
