Former University of Notre Dame men’s basketball team captains Jerian Grant (2010-15) and Jack Cooley (2009-13) helped the Chicago Bulls claim the NBA Summer League Championship on Monday, July 18th, with a 84-82 overtime victory over the Minnesota Timberwolves at the Thomas and Mack Center in Las Vegas, Nev.. The victory marks the first time a Notre Dame alumnus has been part of an NBA Summer League Championship team in Las Vegas, which has held a championship game since 2013.

Grant was named the championship game MVP after posting 24 points, 10 rebounds and five assists. He scored the Bulls’ first five points of overtime with a driving layup, then a step back three pointer on the next possession. He ended the seven-game schedule averaging 12.7 ppg, 3.9 apg and 2.9 rpg.
Cooley did not play in the championship game, but was able to make the most of his opportunities with the Bulls, who did not lose a game (7-0) during the Las Vegas summer league schedule. Seeing action in six games, Cooley averaged 9.5 minutes per game, 4.2 ppg and 4.3 rpg. Expand those numbers to an NBA regular-season game and Cooley’s numbers would be 15.8 ppg and 16.4 rpg.
