Gleason Falls In Singles, Advances With Sanders In Doubles To Second Round

ATHENS, Ga. — After a strong first-round match yesterday, sophomore Quinn Gleason fell to 12th-ranked Breaunna Addison of Texas in the round of 32 today, 6-1, 6-1. This season was her first NCAA Singles Championship appearance.

Later in the afternoon, Gleason paired up with senior Britney Sanders for the first round of the NCAA Doubles Championship, taking on Courtney Colton and Lauren Mira of Vanderbilt.

The match was a fight for the Irish–after taking the first set 6-4, Gleason and Sanders dropped the second 6-2. With the third set tied at 5-5, the Irish duo won the next two games to take the match, 6-4, 2-6, 7-5.

“Britney and I are really happy to be here with the chance to compete against the best doubles teams in the country,” Gleason said after the match. “We fought really hard and are really excited about the opportunity to play a really amazing North Carolina team in the next round.”

Tomorrow, the Irish will face third-seeded Hayley Carter and Jamie Loeb of UNC. Gleason and Sanders faced them earlier in the season, losing 8-3. Tomorrow, the duo will be looking for a different outcome.
