Notre Dame Tied for 12th in Sears Directors’ Cup

NOTRE DAME, Ind. — The University of Notre Dame stands tied for 12th in the latest standings featuring final fall sports standings in the Sears Directors’ Cup all-sports competition.

Thanks to the Irish women’s soccer team reaching the national semifinals, the men’s cross country team finishing 12th at the NCAA championship and the volleyball team reaching the NCAA regional semifinals, Notre Dame currently has 110 points, as does Pepperdine.

Stanford (290 points) leads the competition thanks to 1997 NCAA titles in women’s volleyball and men’s cross country, while North Carolina (260 points) is second after winning the NCAA women’s soccer and field hockey titles.

The current standings include results from NCAA competition in women’s volleyball, men’s water polo, field hockey, I-A and I-AA football, men’s and women’s cross country and men’s and women’s soccer.

In the four previous years in which the Sears Directors’ Cup competition has been held, Notre Dame has finished 11th in 1993-94, 30th in 1994-95, 11th in 1995-96 and 14th in 1996-97.
