THE MARYLAND SERIES

• Saturday will be the 15th meeting all-time between Notre Dame and Maryland. The Irish trail the Terrapins 6-8 in the matchup.

• This will be a rematch of last season’s NCAA Quarterfinal game between the two sides at Arlotta Stadium. The Terrapins won in overtime by a score of 14-13.

• Wheaton Jackoboice had a huge game in defeat, scoring four goals to lead the Irish attack. Eric Dobson added two goals for the Irish. Liam Entenmann had a strong day in the cage, producing 16 saves.

DOWN GOES #1

• The Irish have won each of their last three matchups when facing the No. 1 team in the USILA poll.

• Notre Dame handed previously undefeated Duke its first loss of the season in 2021, winning by a score of 13-8 at Arlotta Stadium.

• In the 2018 ACC Tournament semifinals the Irish defeated top-ranked Duke in Charlottesville by a score of 14-11 to advance to the title game.

• The Irish started the streak by knocking off No. 1 Syracuse in a double overtime thriller at Arlotta by a final of 13-12 during the 2015 season.

THE KAVANAGH BROTHERS

Pat Kavanagh enjoyed a breakout 2021 sophomore season that propelled him to become the fourth Tewaaraton Finalist in program history and his brother Chris joined the 2022 squad as an attackman.

• In the 2022 season opener, Pat and Chris combined for 14 points off eight goals and six assists, despite each playing less than a half.

• Pat was named the ACC Offensive Player of the Week following the four-goal, four-assist outing.

• Pat produced a team-high 64 points on the season off 38 assists and 26 goals.

• In just 10 games Pat became the all-time single-season ND assist record holder, passing older brother Matt (33) for the record. Matt’s 33-assist season came in an 18-game 2014 season.

• Of the five Tewaaraton Finalists, Pat led the group in assists per game (3.17), ground balls (35) and caused turnovers (9).

• Pat’s 38 assists over 12 games ranked third in the NCAA and leads the ACC in assists per game with an average of 3.17.

• In the final game of the regular season Pat broke the program record for points in a game with a 10-point showing off five goals and five assists in the blowout win over No. 9 Syracuse.

MIRER MOMENTS ON THE BIG STAGE

• Grad student Morrison Mirer has turned in his best performances in some of the biggest games of his career.

• The midfielder has posted a career-high four goals on three occasions, all coming against quality opponents.

• Mirer first scored four goals in a game in the 2019 NCAA Tournament opening round win over Johns Hopkins.

• He then was the star in Notre Dame’s 2021 regular season upset of No. 1 Duke, leading the Irish with four goals in the victory.

• The most recent outburst came earlier this season against No. 3 Georgetown in which he posted a third quarter hat trick to get the Irish back in the game.

CHALLENGING SLATE AHEAD

• Notre Dame has never shied away from putting together a challenging schedule and the 2022 slate is no different.

• Of Notre Dame’s 12 regular-season opponents, 10 are currently ranked in the top 20 in either the USILA or Inside Lacrosse polls.

• The Irish have three matchups on the schedule against teams currently ranked in the top three in the polls.

THE ATTACK IS BACK

• The Irish returned 74.0 percent of their goals from last season (125 of 169).

• Seven of ND’s top eight scorers from 2021 are on the 2022 roster, including six that finished in double figures.

• Five of six attacking starters from the 2020 squad are back in 2021, as Pat Kavanagh, Griffin Westlin, Wheaton Jackoboice, Quinn McCahon and Eric Dobson return to the field.

CORRIGAN ALL-TIME DI PROGRAM WINS LEADER

• With the win over No. 1 Duke on April 10, 2021, Baumer Family Head Men’s Lacrosse Coach Kevin Corrigan broke the NCAA record for most wins at a DI program with 311, passing Bob Shillinglaw (Delaware).

• Corrigan became just the third coach in NCAA Division I men’s lacrosse history to reach the 300-win mark at a single school with the win over Marquette on April 10, 2019.

• Corrigan is one of just four active Division I coaches to reach the 300-win mark in his career.

• Corrigan has an overall record of 323-169 in his 35 seasons of coaching.

• The head coach is 314-154 in his 34 seasons at Notre Dame.

• Corrigan is the longest tenured men’s lacrosse coach at the DI level.

DOMINATING DEFENSE

• The Irish defense made a statement in its season opener against Detroit Mercy, allowing just two goals over the 60 minutes of action.

• The two goals are the fewest allowed by a DI team this season.

• The Notre Dame goalies combined to make 19 saves while allowing just two goals for 90.5 save percentage.

• The 2021 defense was one of the best units in the country, allowing just 8.92 goals per game.

• The 8.92 goals per game ranked third in the country and first in the ACC.
